UCL staff are warned to stay alert as malicious emails are on the increase

26 August 2015

UCL Information Services Division is asking staff to be cautious when reviewing emails as a result of an increase in malicious emails.

A number of UCL departments have been disconnected from their shared drives for up to a week as a result of a staff member opening an infected email attachment. They also lost a few files permanently.

If an email looks at all suspicious, do not click on links in it, and do not open its attachments. Anti-virus will not protect your computer  against new viruses. If in doubt, please contact your IT support. You can also report malicious email to Action Fraud.

For more information and advice you can undertake the UCL Information Security Awareness course on Moodle.
