20 June 2013

The Bartlett School of Architecture UCL will present innovative designs in its annual student showcase the Bartlett Summer Show from 21-29 June.

The annual celebration of student work is one of the world's biggest architecture degree shows. Over 500 students will present an incredible range of inventive, creative and visual work, from models and drawings, to films, multimedia installations and computer fabrications.

This year's show will be opened on Friday 21 June by renowned French architect, Claude Parent, long-time collaborator of Paul Virilio and previous recipient of the Grand Prix national de l'architecture - France's highest architecture award. Parent will select the prestigious Show Opener's Prize, announcing the winner on the opening night. Following this, the exhibit is free and open to the public from Saturday 22 June to Saturday 29 June.

Last year's exhibition was described as "a wonderland of architectural inventions" by BD Online, and "a beautiful collection" by Architects' Journal, who also commented on one student's work as "extraordinary."

This year's event is part of the London Festival of Architecture 2013.

The exhibition demonstrates a diversity of approaches and agendas that reflect the multicultural and plural condition of London, and the trans-modern society we live in.

Dr Marcos Cruz, Director of the Bartlett School of Architecture

Dr Marcos Cruz, Director of the Bartlett School of Architecture, says: "This year's Bartlett Summer Show sees more students exhibiting than ever before. The exhibition demonstrates a diversity of approaches and agendas that reflect the multicultural and plural condition of London, and the trans-modern society we live in.

"Work on display reflects the School's explorations in advanced computational methods and new fabrication techniques along with a return to more narrative and illustrative work. More than anything else visitors to the show will see projects focussed on socially and environmentally sensitive design solutions."

Known for its creative and radical ethos, the Bartlett School of Architecture has consistently been voted the UK's leading architecture school by the Guardian and Architects' Journal. Notable staff and alumni include Sir Peter Cook, Reyner Banham, Sir Richard MacCormac CBE, Farshid Moussavi, Tom Dyckhoff and Bompass and Parr among many others.
