Student volunteering opportunities - creative writing

23 March 2012

Novelist Peter Hobbs is looking for volunteers to come and help run a creative writing group at Pimlico Academy on the afternoon of Tuesday 27 March, between 3.

Volunteering 00 - 4.45pm.

At least 10 volunteers are needed - preferably with CRB checks in place. Volunteers do not need to be accomplished writers themselves, but will be providing students with one-to-one support. Activities will include helping with editing text, spelling, and punctuation. Similarly, volunteers are sought to help the writer Betsy Tobin and her creative-writing group at Highbury Grove School, Islington, on Monday afternoons, between 3.00 - 4.45pm. Dates to be confirmed.

John Braime, Volunteering Manager at UCL Union, explained: "Every year we see more and more students getting involved in volunteering - both undergraduates and postgraduates.

"They tell us that volunteering doesn't just help them become more employable, but also that it's helped improve their general wellbeing. For some, volunteering complements their academic subject - for others, it's a chance to do something different."

Pimlico Academy and Highbury Grove volunteers will be first in line to take part in UCL's Festival of Literature and London, taking place on 15 June 2012.
