Participants needed for tinnitus research study

We are seeking participants affected with tinnitus for a research study aimed at investigating the mechanisms and brain networks underlying tinnitus at Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging, University College London, 12 Queen Square, London WC1N 3BG.

Study details

The study will involve filling a questionnaire related to your tinnitus, a short behavioural test to identify sounds that suppress your tinnitus (~ 45-60 minutes) and conditional upon the results, you will be required to do a behavioural task in the MEG scanner (~45-60 mins) and followed by a short structural MRI scan (~15 minutes).

Eligibility criteria

We are seeking participants affected with tinnitus for a research study aimed at investigating the mechanisms and brain networks underlying tinnitus at Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging, University College London, 12 Queen Square, London WC1N 3BG.

  • Should have long-term or permanent tinnitus
  • Aged above 18 years
  • No neurological disorders, such as epilepsy, stroke or multiple sclerosis
  • No use of benzodiazepines, which include diazepam (Valium) and temazepam
  • No metallic implants in your body, e.g. pacemakers, dental implants, aneurysm clips, nerve stimulators, screws or plates in bone.
  • No pregnancy
  • No claustrophobia that would prevent you being in an enclosed space for 20 minutes
  • No conditions preventing you from sitting still for half an hour (short breaks with movements are allowed) or preventing you from lying flat

  • Name, age, gender; contact number, email id;
  • Details of tinnitus; affected ear; clinical diagnosis; audiogram tests; any hearing loss?
  • Available times and dates for participation anytime June 2011 onwards.

If selected, you will be contacted with further information and the dates for testing.
