Katy Walsh, a fifth year medical student at UCL, was presented with the 2008 Paul Lock Memorial Prize at a gathering in the Rayne building. Katy was commended for her work on Cat Scratch Disease following her involvement with the treatment of the condition in a 14 month-old patient. The research and observations she documented at North Devon District Hospital during her placement last summer now provide a valuable record for the hospital.

The memorial prize marks the life of Dr Paul Lock, a junior doctor at the North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple, whose life was tragically cut short in 1998. The prize recognises the work and initiative of junior doctors, nursing staff, and medical and nursing students.
