Professor Jo Wolff, Head of UCL Philosophy, has been appointed to the Nuffield Bioethics Council. The position runs for three years from Jan 2008.

The Nuffield Council on Bioethics was established in 1991 to examine ethical issues raised by new developments in biology and medicine. The council is an independent body, funded jointly by the Nuffield Foundation, the Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Trust.

The council has achieved an international reputation for addressing public concerns, and providing independent advice to assist policy makers and stimulate debate in bioethics.

Professor Wolff was previously a member of the Nuffield Council working party which produced, in 2005, the report The Ethics of Research Involving Animals.
