CEELBAS inaugural conference, 19-20 April

16 March 2007

Leading academics and public figures will be speaking at the inaugural conference of the Centre for East European Language Based Area Studies (CEELBAS), which takes place on 19-20 April in the Christopher Ingold Lecture Theatre.

CEELBAS is a major collaborative project between the UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES), and the Universities of Oxford and Birmingham, with a network of partners at the Universities of Bath, Cambridge, Kent, Manchester, Sheffield, Warwick and SOAS. It was established with grants totalling £5.6m from HEFCE, AHRC and ESRC under the UK's major strategic initiative for investment in language-based area studies.

The conference, 'East European Area Studies: Setting the Research Agenda', will feature opening addresses by Charles Clarke MP, and SSEES Director, Robin Aizlewood. Addressing key research questions, eminent academics from UCL and across the CEELBAS network will present alongside representatives of international agencies and thinktanks such as the EC Unit for Relations with Russia and Demoseuropa - the Centre for European Strategy.

The conference is free, but registration is essential. For further details and registration please follow the links at the top of the item or contact the CEELBAS Administrator at ceelbas@ssees.ucl.ac.uk.
