UCL Research Challenges: Application deadline

12 June 2007

The deadline for applications for funding from UCL Research Challenges has passed.

jo wolff Sixty-five applications have been received, requesting funds totalling more than £1.6 million.

The Research Challenges Board is now considering which projects to support. Project proposals are based on five themes: Sustainability; London; Infection; Communication and Access to Culture; and New Medical Technologies. The themes were devised to reflect ideas generated from across the university, after a campaign to gauge opinion on what areas students, staff and alumni were most interested to see researched at UCL.

Professor Jonathan Wolff, who coordinates the Research Challenges scheme, said: "The interest and quality of the bids is remarkably high, and speaks volumes about the talent, energy and enthusiasm of UCL staff. It is notable that so many of the bids are inter-disciplinary. One applicant remarked that if the point of the scheme was to encourage discussion between the faculties then it has already been a great success."
