30 March 2006

The UCL School of Slavonic & East European Studies (UCL SSEES) will co-host the Third Baltic Symposium with the Baltic Council on 31 March 2006.

'The Baltic States: Two Years after Joining EU and NATO' will have four working panels: Politics, Economics, Social Models/Society and Youth Culture & Identity. A final roundup session will provide a forum for open discussion around the general theme of the symposium.

The keynote speech will be delivered by Dr Mart Laar, former Prime Minister of Estonia, and the ambassadors of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will participate in the roundup panel. The ambassadors of Finland and Serbia & Montenegro will also attend and speakers will include the Latvian Minister of Culture, an MEP, representatives from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the business community.
