In the 2006 John Maynard Keynes Lecture, Professor Ken Binmore (UCL Economics) argues that traditional moral philosophy - in the style of Plato or Kant - has taken us nowhere.

In 'How and Why Does Fairness Matter?' delivered at the British Academy on 28 February 2006, Professor Binmore argues that such thinking fails to understand that morality evolves along with the human race as a means of sustaining cooperative equilibria in repeated games.

Touching on examples such as the recent publication of cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammad, Professor Binmore argues that what is viewed as fair in one culture is not always in another.
