UCL triumph on 'University Challenge'

UCL's 'University Challenge' team bested Pembroke College, Cambridge, on 14 August 2006, in the second match of the competition's round one.

They drew first blood by answering "Charles Dickens" to the first starter question, and went on to win the close-fought battle by 165 to 160.

In a clear demonstration of the benefits of studying at a university with strengths across the complete range of disciplines, the team's other correct answers included: "viscosity", "fibreglass", "question mark", "meteor hitting the earth", "Wet Wet Wet" and 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'", "earthworm", "love", "'Henry V'", "snare drum", "bongos", "Thomas Pynchon" and "Frascati".
