UCL enters the Olympics

14 August 2006

Professor Janice Morphet (UCL Bartlett School of Planning) has been appointed to the Planning Committee of the Olympic Delivery Authority working towards the London games in 2012.

Professor Morphet, along with ten other elected colleagues, will be responsible from early September 2006 for planning and delivering the Olympic Park in East London.

The Olympic Park will house the Olympic stadium for athletics, the velopark for cycling events, an aquatics centre for swimming, hockey pitches, and a venue for a range of indoor sports. It will also be home to the athletes' village and the broadcast and press centres.

Currently an honorary visiting professor at UCL, Professor Morphet has over 35 years' experience in local and central government. Over this time she has held numerous roles, including that of chief executive of a London local authority and central government senior adviser on local government modernisation and e-government, when she led on partnership working.

Professor Morphet has served on a number of professional committees, notably on a Joseph Rowntree inquiry into housing, and is a former chair of the Conference of the Heads of Planning Schools.
