Close shave for Provost

Professor Malcolm Grant, President and Provost of UCL, abruptly ended a 33-year intense personal relationship on 11 March 2005.

In aid of Comic Relief, he shaved off his renowned moustache - exemplary of 1970s engineering - raising more than £2,300 from the UCL community.

To the cheers of onlooking staff and students, Professor Grant conducted the shave in front of UCL's Portico, in the heart of central London. He was aided by members of the Cheese Grater student magazine, which instigated the Cash-for-Tach charity challenge.
