Scientists weather a space storm

By taking front row seats during a celestial storm, a team led by UCL scientists have studied a huge eruption from its birth on the Sun and when it reaches Earth.

Triggered by an explosion on the Sun, which has 50,000 million times more energy than the Hiroshima bomb, these blasts of gas, known as coronal mass ejections, can engulf the Earth.
