Academic staff to benefit from changes made to UCL consultancies

28 August 2003

A new subsidiary of UCL, UCL Consultants Ltd, has been set up to channel all administrative, contractual and financial aspects of UCL consultancy projects, effective from 1 August 2003.

The distinctions between 'private' and 'UCL' consultancies will remain, meaning that academics involved with consultancy projects not using UCL resources will retain the freedom to do so. However, all consultancy work conducted on UCL premises - including contracts under £5,000 - must now be channelled through UCL Consultants Ltd.

UCL Consultants Ltd, led by Ms Susanne Westfold-Scott, will have four full-time staff - including one contracts executive, an office administrator and two finance officers. Ms Westfold-Scott said: "The team is dedicated to all UCL consultancy projects, from initial quotations through to final claims and payments to the consultant and UCL department. The unit will exclusively handle consultancies, and has experience in negotiating commercial rates for various types of consultancy project, including arrangements for sub-contracts."

UCL Business is holding a question and answer session in the Wolfson Building's Lecture Theatre 2 on Monday 4 August at 1pm. Ms Westfold-Scott is also available to answer individual questions or give a presentation to departments if numbers so require. The UCL Consultants Ltd web page will be completed soon, containing all the latest information.
