Nathaniel (Nat) Henman

Biography

I completed my undergraduate integrated masters degree in Mathematics at UCL in 2019. My masters thesis was on bubble dynamis and their applications in ultrasound imagery. After that I began working towards my PhD, jointly funded by the Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics departments, supervised by Prof. Manish Tiwari and Prof. Frank Smith.

Research summary

My research is on liquid droplet impact onto engineered surfaces, combining analytical and numerical techniques. The types of engineered surfaces considered have been deformable, textured and lubricant infuses surfaces. Both the pre-impact air cushioning phase and the ensuing post impact dynamics have been investigated.

Teaching Summary

I work as a Senior PGTA in the Integrated Engineering Programme for Mathematical Modelling and Analysis II.

I have also worked as a PGTA in the following:

Mathematical Methods 1, 2 and 3 (Maths)

Fluid Mechanics (Maths)

Introduction to Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics 1 (Mech Eng)

Intermediate Thermodynamics an Fluid Mechanics (Mech Eng)

Advanced Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics (Mech Eng)
