Dr Sophia Bano, Assistant Professor in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence

Dr Sophia Bano is an Assistant Professor in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at UCL East Robotics, Department of Computer Science, and is also part of the Wellcome/EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences (WEISS) and UCL Centre for Artificial Intelligence. Dr Bano's research focuses on developing computer vision and artificial intelligence techniques for context awareness, machine consciousness and navigation in minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgery. Dr Bano is an active member of the Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) society, area chair for MICCAI and IPCAI, and co-organiser of various workshops and biomedical imaging challenges, including the Endoscopic Vision (EndoVis) Challenges at MICCAI that have been running successfully since 2015.
