Lungs for Living Research Centre

We conduct world-leading airway stem cell biology and lung cancer research. Our aim is to delineate the biological processes supporting airway homeostasis and to identify the earliest cellular and molecular events causing lung cancer. We also seek to develop innovative methods of lung cancer diagnosis, staging and treatment, as well as tissue engineering strategies to replace damaged airways.

The Lungs for Living Research Centre (L4L) integrates basic, translational and clinical research in the context of tissue regeneration and lung carcinogenesis. We ensure that our research programmes connect to clinical needs.

The Centre maintains close links with University College London Hospitals (UCLH). Together with the Centre for Inflammation and Tissue Repair and the Centre for Respiratory Biology, we are part of the UCL Respiratory collaborative network.

    Respiratory Research

    Our research themes cover airway stem cells, pre-invasive disease, lung cancer mechanisms and therapeutic vulnerabilities, mesothelioma, pulmonary fibrosis, cancer screening and early diagnosis strategies.
