I am interested in the regulation of cell size in symmetric and asymmetric divisions. Although cell size is a fundamental aspect of the cells biology and has been explored with great interest over the years, little work has been done to accurately quantify variation in sibling cell sizes that define the birth size of a cell and its possible significance in the function of the cell. The birth size of a cell is specified at the end cytokinesis.  

Cytokinesis is a multistep process which needs to be well-coordinated to ensure proper inheritance of the genetic material and cellular components. Each step is prone to a certain degree of error during division for which we postulate that there must be an error correction mechanism in place. We are interested in how these errors during division contribute to the inheritance of cell mass and cell volume between sibling cells and how its coupled to the function of the cell. 

Remarkably, these error correction mechanisms must be adapted to ensure reproducible size difference in asymmetric divisions. We are investigating how these mechanisms are tailored for asymmetric divisions and how they regulate morphogenesis of multicellular organs.
