Research synopsis

The blood barriers of the nervous system protect and ensure homeostatic balance within nervous tissue while at the same time impairing therapeutic delivery. My main research interest is to uncover how the blood nerve barrier in the peripheral nerve is conferred by its microenvironment. The structure and regulation of the blood nerve barrier is still poorly understood despite the importance of the barrier for PNS function, with disruption associated with disorders such as diabetes and neuropathies.
To study the blood nerve barrier, we use a combination of imaging and molecular approaches to characterise it and uncover the mechanisms by which the barrier is conferred.
