Biography

Co-mortgagee with Robert Wallace, James Tasker and James Hunter (all three of whom are identifiable as partners in Wallace Hunter (q.v.)), of two estates and the enslaved people attached to them belonging to Bernard M. Senior in Jamaica. In addition Wallace, Tasker and Robertson were awarded a share in slave compensation in 1837 for a judgement debt from 1824 for £851 plus interest on Spring Garden in Trelawny. John Robertson himself has not been further traced in connection with Wallace, Hunter, although a logical inference would be that he had been a partner in the 1820s at least. He was presumably the same man as the John Robertson who was one of the co-owners with James Tasker and others of the Samson cargo ship, launched at Greenock in 1830.
