Biography

Returned Jamaica slave-owner, dying in London in 1825.

  1. Will of Elizabeth Gordon widow of Manchester Square [made in 1812] proved 28/01/1825. In the will she left £2500 to her friend Mary Oakes Mackenzie, widow of Arthur Mackenzie late of Clarendon in Jamaica, and £1500 to each of Mary Oakes Mackenzie's five children. She left James Rodon Savage, son of William Savage of Kingston Jamaica, £2000 and 'my negroe woman slave named Rosanna now in possession of his father William with her future issue, offspring and increase.' She also left: £500 each to the daughters by his second marriage of her friend and relation George Rodon (q.v.) of Clarendon now in England; £1000 to Mrs Joanna Bryan, widow of John Pennant Bryan; £500 to Mrs Sarah Mackenzie of Twickenham; and five other monetary legacies, of £50 for a ring to Lady Sinclair daughter of James Chisholme, of £300 each to Jane, Mary and Margaret Singer of Pratt Place, Camden and £200 to William Mitchell the younger. She forgave the £4535 debt to her of George Rodon under his bond. Her residuary legatee was James Rodon, second son of George Rodon. In a series of nine codicils, she recorded the death of James Rodon and replaced him as residuary her with his brother John Rodon, made gifts to her servants, and disposed of household and personal possessions.
