7th Feb 1713 - 1769
Acting Governor of Jamaica (1756 and 1759-1762) and Governor of the Province of New York (1765-1769). He has an entry in the ODNB as 'colonial governor.'
Son of Samuel Moore, planter in Jamaica, and his wife Elizabeth nee Lowe. His paternal grandfather John Moore was an early settler in Barbados who moved to Jamaica. His maternal grandfather was Henry Lowe (q.v.). Matriculated at Leyden University 23/03/1731 aged 20. Married Catharine Maria Long, eldest daughter of Samuel Long and sister of Edward Long, in 1751.
Henry Moore was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 774 acres of land in St Mary and 904 acres of land in Vere, total 1678 acres.
Joseph S. Tiedemann, ‘Moore, Sir Henry, first baronet (1713–1769)’, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Oxford University Press, 2004; online edn, Oct 2005 [http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/19116, accessed 25 Oct 2017]. This gives Elizabeth Lowe's father as Samuel Lowe of Goadby Leicersershire. In fact Samuel was her brother and her father was Henry Lowe.
