Biography

Elizabeth Hopkinson appears as a counterclaimant for both Bachelors Adventure and Plantation John Cove & Craig Miln in British Guiana, in the first case with David, Jonathan and Benjamin Hopkinson, and in the second with Benjamin and David as mortgagees. She has been tentatively identified for these two claims as Elizabeth Rogers, the natural daughter of Thomas Rogers the elder, and the partner of John Hopkinson (q.v.) and mother of David, Jonathan and Benjamin Hopkinson (and others), and as a different woman from Elizabeth Hopkinson the sister of Thomas and Joseph Hopkinson who was awarded part of the compensation on Clonbrock in British Guiana, who was the half-sister of David, Jonathan and Benjamin (an Elizabeth Rogers also appears as a partial claimant on Clonbrock).

  1. There is reportedly an inscription as part of a Hopkinson family memorial in St Michael in the Hamlet Liverpool to Elizabeth Hopkinson: 'Sacred to the memory of Elizabeth Hopkinson Who died at Wavertree on 4th of December 1859 Aged 70 years.'
