Biography

Elizabeth Samuells was born in c.1805. Her mother was Judith Gilling (q.v.), who registered four enslaved people as her Guardian in Hanover in 1817 and 1823. Elizabeth Samuells was recorded as “Mustafina”, aged 18, living in Lucea with her mother, sister and brother in 1823. It was very probably she who registered five enslaved people as owner in Hanover in 1832, having registered three people in 1829. She claimed compensation for the loss of five enslaved people after Emancipation.
