A spirit dealer in Campbeltown, Argyll, Scotland, Isabella Breakenridge inherited a share of enslaved persons in Port Royal, Jamaica, from her brothers Thomas and William (both q.v.), the compensation for which was awarded to her attorney Charles Harvey (q.v.).
Born in Campbeltown, Argyll, 16/11/1794 to John Breakenridge (provision merchant, died 1800 age 49) and Mary Langwill (died 1796 age 39). Her older brothers Thomas and William both owned enslaved persons in Port Royal and were both deceased by 1835. The original claims were made by Peter Breakenridge, son of Thomas; but Mary Breakenridge, her husband also called John, her sister Isabella Breakenridge and niece Eliza Ann Cordiner (all q.v.) counterclaimed as legatees of Thomas and William.
Living at Longrow, Campbeltown, in the censuses of 1841 and 1861 with her older brother John. Died at Longrow 11/06/1874, a spinster, age 79.

Executors were her great-nieces Ann Cordiner residing in Campbeltown and Mrs Isabella Cordiner or McCallum residing in Campbeltown. Will dated 06/01/1865. Left 1/3 each to her executors and the remaining 1/3 to her neice Eliza Breakenridge or Cordiner (all q.v.). |
