Peter Meier-Beck

Honorary Professor of Practice

Biography

Presiding Judge (retired), Bundesgerichtshof (German Federal Court of Justice – FCJ). 

Professor Meier-Beck has extensive practice in deciding patent cases. After serving as a judge at the Regional Court and Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf from 1985 to 2000, Professor Meier-Beck was appointed as a FCJ judge. From 2010 to 2019, he was Presiding Judge of the FCJ's 10th Civil Senate, i.e. the Patent Division. From 2019 until leaving office at the end of September 2021, Professor Meier-Beck was Presiding Judge of the FCJ's Antitrust Senate, i.e. the Competition Division.

Professor Meier-Beck has been teaching patent law since 1995, and was appointed Honorary Professor by Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf in 2005 and by UCL in 2022. He advises and coaches attorneys-at-law and patent attorneys in international patent disputes.
