Call for papers: ECR Waste Law Workshop on Preventing the ‘Wasting’ of Waste
21 April 2023
PhD students are invited to submit papers to the VDI Leadership Fund-sponsored two-day workshop which will explore the role of law in preventing waste generation and incentivising the reuse, recycling, and recovery of any produced waste.
The ECR Waste Law Workshop on Preventing the ‘Wasting’ of Waste, co-organised by Dr Allison Lindner (UCL Laws) and Dr Katrien Steenmans (Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen), will bring together a global network of predominantly ECRs. The event will be held at UCL on 4-5 July 2023 and is free to attend either online or in person.
The workshop will aim to develop the Waste Law Reading Group (WLRG) network, including future activities; and produce a Special Issue on waste law.
Submissions are welcome from PhD students researching waste or circular economy law. The workshop will be an opportunity to present your work and receive feedback from other waste law academics.
Submissions may include theoretical, empirical, and doctrinal contributions to any aspect of waste law. Examples of topics papers might address are:
- Waste prevention
- Environmentally sound management of waste
- Waste and the informal economy
- Circular economy
- Circular bio-economy
- Extended producer responsibility, eco-design, right to repair, or planned obsolescence
- Shipbreaking and recycling
- Case studies such as electronic, fashion, metal, building materials, or other waste
- Transboundary shipment of hazardous waste
- Plastic pollution
- Sustainable development and waste
- Transnational flows of waste
