Speaker: Prof. Roberto Gargarella
About the Paper
Roberto Gargarella is a leading constitutional theorist, who work focuses on the current crisis of democracy and the blind spots of contemporary constitutionalism. His latest book, 'The Law as a Conversation Among Equals', has generated great interest. It suggests that many constitutional systems reflect a strong 'discomfort with democracy', and argues they need to be transformed to create 'a dignified constitutional democracy' based upon a genuine community of equals. In this seminar, Roberto will set out the key arguments of his book, with leading commentators from UCL and elsewhere responding. It should be a lively and engaged discussion, which will form part of the prestigious UCL Public Law Seminar series.
