Modelling of Advanced Functional Materials
using Terascale Computing

Lincoln 2018

The conference will take place in the main lecture theatre within the brand new Isaac-Newton Building (which houses a number of departments with the University of Lincoln, including Maths and Physics). The poster session and refreshments/lunch will take place just outside this lecture theatre. The conference meal will be held on the Tuesday night, on the opposite side of the Brayford Pool, within the Double Tree (Hilton), which houses one of Marco Pierre White's Restaurants. I have highlighted these buildings in red and yellow. The nearest private accommodation to the conference venue is a Holiday Inn Express, and is literally one roundabout away. There are other chains, including a Holiday Inn, Hilton, and Premier Inn, all of which are also within walking distance (although a bit further afield, see map). If arriving by train, you may need to change at Newark North Gate (which is 90 minutes from Kings Cross on the main Virgin East Coast trainline, and 30 minutes from Lincoln on a one carriage train). Walking from the train station to any of the mentioned hotels and conference venue is straightforward. You may want to arrive early on day one and/or leave late on day three in order to see the old town, tutor buildings, glory hole, walk up Steep Hill to Cathedral and Castle (joint ticket available. Although entrance into castle grounds is free, there is a charge to access walkway on walls and to see Magna Carta and the Charter of the Forest). Whilst up there, why not also visit the Roman Gate and Bishop's Palace (English Heritage). Alternatively, you may want to sample one or two of the pubs, shops, cafes along the High Street and Steep Hill, or simply take a walk along the waterside. Please also note that we may run a software workshop for WASP@N, KLMC, FHI-aims, GULP and ChemShell before/after the MCC conference (details to be announced later).
Unfortunately, the university is not geared up for offering accommodation that includes linen and breakfast (please contact either Matt or Arun for more information here). I would strongly recommend that accommodation is secured for the Monday and Tuesday nights ASAP! Some hotels offer no deposit reservations, so why not reserve now?
