Update 4 January 2018 resolved: Large numbers of reply-all emails received by UCL students - 3 January 2018

Normal email services have been restored following the problems experienced yesterday. We blocked all emails to the main student email lists however a number of people who were on the original email recipient list continued to receive multiple emails for a significantly longer period for which we apologise. We automatically removed all the messages containing this specific message ID so that students and others affected didn't have to delete them themselves.

We are in the process of a full investigation of how this issue occurred and we will provide an update next week.

In the meantime access to all large student and staff lists (all-undergrad, all-postgrad, all-staff) is completely blocked and permissions will have to be assigned on a case by case basis.

Once again we apologise for the obvious disruption this has caused across UCL.

 We have been notified of a significant number of emails being sent to all UCL student email accounts in the last 2 hours. Reply-all emails were incorrectly allowed to send to the all-undergrads and all-postgrads lists.

We apologise for the obvious inconvenience this has caused.

We have stopped any more emails being sent and are investigating how this happened. Some internal email systems may continue to forward emails for a short time.

We will be automatically deleting these emails from users accounts so no further action is required at this time.
