UCL Software database: How to install a downloaded ISO file in Windows 7 using Virtual Clone

This guide explains how to mount an ISO file as a virtual disk on your computer so that you can install the software in the same way as you would from a CD/DVD-ROM.

Before you start…

· Computer running Windows 7

. Do not use for Windows 10, use the in built product.

· A copy of Virtual Clone virtual disk cloning software installed on your computer

· An ISO file downloaded from the UCL software database

Instructions

1. Right click on the Virtual CloneDrive icon in the Windows Task bar. If the icon is not displayed, click on the show hidden icons arrow.

2. Click on a blank drive, in this example it is Drive D, but the letter of the drive will depend on how many disk drives you have installed on your computer already.

3. Click Mount

4. Browse your computer and select the ISO file you want to install and click Ok

Installation will start automatically for Office, Project and some other software applications. If installation doesn’t start automatically then you will need go to Computer on the Windows start menu and double click on new drive and locate and double click the setup.exe file to start installation.

Unmounting your virtual drives

1. Right click on the Virtual CloneDrive icon in the Windows Task bar

3. Click on the drive you want to unmount and click Unmount. This will now free up that drive letter for another ISO image.

Increasing the number of virtual drives

1. Left click on the Virtual CloneDrive icon in the Windows Task bar

The number of virtual drives can be increased by choosing the Settings ab and changing the Number of Drives field.
