Manolis Mavrikis is Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Analytics in Education at IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society, and was programme leader for UCL’s Education and Technology MA. His research intersects artificial intelligence (AI), human-computer interaction (HCI), and educational technology (EdTech) to better understand learning, and to develop and evaluate digital tools that transform education.
Associate Professor Dr Mutlu Cukurova, who leads the Design and Use of Technologies for Education module as part of the MA, investigates analytics and AI solutions’ potential to support human learning. His research aims to equip learners with the skills needed for a rapidly changing world, a goal also encompassed in his policy work and involvement in UCL’s Grand Challenges on Transformative Technologies working group.
BJET publishes theoretical perspectives, methodological developments and high quality empirical research that demonstrate whether and how applications of instructional/educational technology systems, networks, tools and resources lead to improvements in formal and non-formal education at all levels, from early years through to higher, technical and vocational education, professional development and corporate training.
The high impact journal (impact factor 5.268) is a primary source of high quality digital educational and training technology research for academics and professionals around the world. It ranks 23rd out of 270 in the education and educational research category, and is consistently ranked among the top three generic educational technology journals.
Professor Sara Hennessy (University of Cambridge) and Dr Louis Major (University of Manchester) also continue as BJET editors following the competitive application process. They are joined by a new team member, Cathy Lewin (Manchester Metropolitan University).
The editors said: ‘We are delighted to continue working as editors of BJET and are excited to welcome Cathy Lewin to the team. Together we will maintain BJET’s high editorial standards and will collaborate with BERA to advance our strategic vision for the journal in our new term as editors.’
Dominic Wyse, Vice-President of BERA and Professor at IOE, said: “Many congratulations to Manolis and Mutlu for their re-appointment to the BJET team, one of BERA’s flagship journals. The work they do is vital to the journal but also to education as a discipline because high quality journals are where outstanding education research is published. It is also a pleasure to see the important relationship between IOE and BERA being sustained is so many different ways not least through engagement with BERA journals.”
Sara Price, Professor of Digital Learning at IOE, stepped down as editor in December 2022 to focus on her research, after seven years in the editorial team.
