What does social justice-inspired science education look like? | RFTRW: S16E03

13 July 2022

In this podcast we hear about research that seeks to improve interest and engagement in learning about science for primary school students through personal experience and identity.

Dr Meghna Nag Chowdhuri, Research for the Real World podcast

Dr Meghna Nag Chowdhuri
Research Fellow

Dr Meghna Nag Chowdhuri is part of the team behind the Primary Science Capital Project - applied action research working in partnership with teachers to develop a science capital-informed pedagogical approach for use in primary schools.

Previous efforts to tackle inequitable science engagement, such as the lack of representation of minorities tend to try and science more ‘fun’ or focusing on changing children. ‘Science capital’ allows the focus to shift towards structural change in school science.

Dr Lauren Hammond finds out how the project has fared and been able to scale up, and what resources are available now for teachers to use.
