The videos explore projects that IOE academics are currently undertaking that aim to help children’s learning and attainment in the short- and long-term future.
Topics cover how technology can be used to support children with literacy difficulties and those learning to read, what skills children need when they learn to spell, and how oral language learning is compromised in socially disadvantaged areas. Other videos examine how children learn words and their meanings, how different mathematical abilities develop and why different children struggle with maths, and the effects of multilingualism on cognitive development across people’s lifespan.
The videos are introduced by Professor Julie Dockrell, Director of LLNR&P, who speaks to IOE academics Dr Amelia Roberts and Dr Zachary Walker about the research clips, the diversity of the Centre’s research, resources available for teachers and parents, and prevalent myths about children’s learning.
Professor Dockrell said: “These six video clips demonstrate three really important aspects of our work: that we work with children of all ages, of all abilities and with different learning challenges; that our work reflects the diversity of children growing up in the UK now; and that we conduct research in flexible and creative ways.”
LLNR&P works on theoretical and applied research in the areas of spoken and written language and children’s developing and understanding between language, literacy and numeracy.
