Organiser

Dr Colleen Howell

Since 1994, the South African (SA) higher education sector has wrestled with access, equity and social justice, despite interventions geared towards systemic reform.

Shireen will argue that funding and support for teaching and learning in higher education must be prioritised. She'll also explore whether the emphasis on research and extreme performativity have detracted from developing teaching and learning that prioritise education.

She will talk about how some systems enable the displacement of social justice, reinscribing existing inequalities and creating new ones, thereby masking the true impact of enhanced performativity on the most marginalised of students and staff.

This online event will be particularly useful for researchers, academics and students.

To register, please email Dr Colleen Howell (colleen.howell@ucl.ac.uk).
