Issues such as online misinformation and fake news have become more prominent than before. NewsWise is a school programme aimed at addressing this; it is funded by the Nuffield Foundation and is being conducted by the University of Birmingham, together with the University of Liverpool, the Guardian Foundation, the National Literacy Trust and the PSHE Association.
Gianfranco will discuss the initial findings from the project, focusing on the impact of NewsWise and on both teachers’ and pupils’ views and experiences of delivering and taking part in the programme - with a focus on the practical and policy implications inherent in both the project and the findings.
He will explore some of the challenges experienced by educators and the recommendations that can support educators and help in the promotion of news literacy among children.
This event will be particularly useful for researchers, policymakers, students and teachers.
Please note this is a hybrid event and can be joined either in-person or online.
