Interactional competence in intercultural communication
Join this event to hear Carsten Roever with David Wei Dai as they explore the intersection of interactional competence (IC) and intercultural communication.

Interactional competence, understood as language users’ ability to communicate in extended, co-constructed discourse, is rapidly gaining prominence in second language acquisition and assessment research.
However, IC has not so far been related to intercultural communication even though the question of how interactants configure their interactional resources to co-construct discourse in diverse cultural settings is a highly relevant question to both IC and intercultural communication research.
The speakers will discuss some of the challenges of relating IC to intercultural communication, and how such work can benefit research and practice in both areas.
This event will be particularly useful for educators and researchers working in intercultural communication.
Please note that this is a hybrid event and can be joined either in-person or online.
