The focus of the session will be on editing a piece of writing - what does it take to make it publishable? How do you give a piece of writing the necessary clarity to convey your message and to (potentially) reach a wider non-expert audience?
We will look at format, structure, flow, language and voice (the author's, the publication's, the editor's) first before editing and discussing some pieces of writing. If time allows, we will discuss the often overlooked, albeit crucial, role of communication in the process of editing.
The aim of this workshop is to better understand the editing process and to be able to apply this knowledge not only in other writer's pieces but in your onw writing as well.
The workshop is open to all, irrespective of experience and will be led by Marthe Lisson, Editor of the IAS review Think Pieces and the Institute's Communications Officer.
