The leading causes of death and the main causes
of avoidable mortality for men and women have been studied by examining
the
expected number of deaths in each small area using age-specific European
mortality rates. The units of analysis for the study will be Census
Tracts. On average Census Tracts have a population size of 4,678 for men
and 5,184 for women. The median population of small areas ranged from
130 for
men and 144 for women in Turin to 35,590 for men and 41,140 for women in
Budapest).
