Madrid: All-Cause Mortality

In Madrid, there were 213,240 deaths from all causes over the study period (2000 - 2007).  This figure consists of 107,236 male deaths and 106,004 female deaths and is based on data from the Mortality Registry of the Region of Madrid.

All-cause mortality for men and women is considerably higher in the city centre of Madrid (Centro district).  This is shown by the dark brown clustering of neighbourhoods, located to the right of the map legend.  Among men, high mortality risk is also found in the South-East, especially in the districts of Puente de Vallecas and San Blas.  There is considerable heterogeneity in the geographical distribution of sSMRs throughout Madrid, made evident by the speckled appearance of the central areas of both maps.  In the outskirts of Madrid, there is a considerably high risk of mortality for women, as shown by the predominance of brown tones on the edges of the map.  The pattern for male mortality risk in these areas is less pronounced.

The following maps of mortality risk in Madrid have been amplified in order to make small areas more visible.  For further information about how these maps were created, please visit the methodological section of the Atlas.  Click on each image for a full-screen view of the maps below.
