Barcelona: All-Cause Mortality

In Barcelona, there were 143,952 deaths from all causes over the study period (2000 - 2008).  This figure consists of 70,263 male deaths and 73,689 female deaths and is based on data from the Mortality Registry of Catalonia.

Excess all-cause mortality of men is higher in the inner city areas, and along the East coast and North of the city.  Areas with high deficits of all-cause male mortality are mainly in the Western areas, such as the districts of Les Corts and Sarrià, Sant Gervasi.  There is substantial variability in the distribution of all-cause mortality of women, although a concentration of excess deaths is shown in the inner city Coastal district.
