Objective 3

Promote tools and design interventions to encourage awareness of health and wellbeing.

Objective 3 is to promote tools and design interventions to encourage awareness of health and wellbeing through working towards / maintaining a healthy body in an individual context. 

Providing a physically safe working environment, ensuring that working practices and conditions identified as contributing to poor musculoskeletal health is proactively managed. Prioritising the Public Health challenges identified as a health risk through the pandemic by providing opportunities to improve health through interventions and signposting.  Supporting staff to access weight management programmes, smoking cessation support and becoming more active through evidence-based programmes in partnership with NHS/PHE.

Actions:

a)    Deliver a staff and student seasonal flu vaccination campaign to protect the UCL community

b)    Work in in partnership with UCL Safety Services to promote the DSE reporting tool to all staff ensuring they have a safe working set up.  Provide access to set up advice and guidance and raise awareness of the Workplace Health Physiotherapy Clinic when appropriate  

c)    Share information on the NHS/PHE Better Health campaign widely, promoting the health benefits of healthy eating, weight loss, physical activity, good sleep hygiene and reducing alcohol consumption.

d)    Raise awareness of the UCL partnership with Breathe the smoking cessation service in Camden and Islington.  Supporting the UCL community to quit smoking with behaviour change support.

e)    Create a partnership with Project Active in the Student Union to create programmes to improve activity and deliver activity sessions to staff.

f)    Provide health promotion and health awareness campaigns in line with the NHS health promotion calendar.  Topics to include diabetes, heart health and cancer.

g)    Work in partnership with Sustainability and Green Champions to further develop opportunities for activity in our green spaces and gardens.

h)    Raise awareness of the benefits available to UCL staff including cycle to work scheme, cycle buddies, gym membership and health insurance products.

i)    Design and deliver an annual step challenge.  

Measuring Success:

  1. All seasonal flu vaccinations purchased to be utilised
  2. Increased completions of the DSE Assessment and support sought for desk set up with better musculoskeletal health outcomes.  
  3. Positive feedback received from clients accessing the Workplace Health Physiotherapy service.
  4. Increased access to supports available through the Better Health Campaign
  5. Activity sessions delivered and programmes created to improve activity in partnership with Project Active
  6. In 2021 create a working group to undertake the development, design and delivery looking for opportunities to utilise technology and research.
  7. A health topic promoted monthly in partnership with CAM 
  8. Smoking cessation campaign partnership with Breathe launched and accessed 
  9. Positive feedback from the 2020 and 2021 step challenges
