AFRAB’s participation in the conference “La Recherche sur les esclavages dans le monde: un état des lieux” in Dakar (Senegal) and workshop of the Francophone West Africa teams, November 2022.

On 7-9 November the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), the Fondation pour la Mémoire de l’Esclavage (FME), and the Université Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar (UCAD) organised an international conference on the state of the art in global slavery studies. Several researchers involved in AFRAB presented at the conference, including Ahmadou Sehou (University of Maroua, Cameroon), Joseph Jules Sinang (University of Yaoundé I, Cameroon), Samson Mengolo Mbel (University of Buea, Cameroon), Melanie Horstead (UCL) and Benedetta Rossi (UCL).

AFRAB’s fifth sub-regional workshop took place in Dakar in parallel with the Conference, and was hosted by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (Dakar Branch) on 10 November 2022. The following researchers from the Cameroon (CERPETA), Niger (LARSO, ISRH), and UCL teams participated in the workshop: Janvier Guidang-Tchinabi (Cameroon), Alakarbo Hassimou (Niger), Melanie Horstead (UCL), Adam Mahamat (Cameroon), Samson Mengolo-Mbel (Cameroon), Oumarou Moussa (Niger), Marina Nkwiyir (Cameroon), Benedetta Rossi (UCL), Joseph Jules Sinang (Cameroon), Ahmadou Séhou (Cameroon), and Abdoulaye Tchiambou (Niger). AFRAB’s conceptual framework, methodology, ethics, and research plans were discussed at the meeting.
