As part of UCL History's celebration of Black History Month 2021, join Professor Melvyn Stokes for an informal chat about the 1967 film Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. Please watch the film in advance and then join us for a discussion about the film.
Social comedy drama about the consequences of a young white woman’s announcement to her upper-middle-class parents that she plans to marry a black research physician. When the groom-to-be lets it be known that the wedding will not take place without their consent, the parents are forced to do some serious soul-searching. Katharine Hepburn won a best actress Oscar, accepting it for herself and Spencer Tracy, who died during the filming.
