Launch of UCL Critical Global Health Network and 5-min survey for Early Career Researchers

10 January 2024

We are thrilled to announce that we will be launching a UCL Critical Global Health Network.

Global Health

Critical Global Health is an emerging interdisciplinary scholarship that endeavours to examine culture and context, interrogate colonial and imperial legacies and challenge the Anglo-centric hegemony of knowledge in health and medicine. Such scholarship tends to draw on theoretical or methodological approaches from social sciences and humanities (e.g. qualitative or participatory methods) to disrupt dominant frameworks of knowledge in global health.

We will hold an online symposium on 15 February 2024, with a range of keynote speakers and roundtable discussions to kick off our Network – mark your diaries! UCL Critical Global Health Network will also be launching their website in the coming weeks.

We welcome everyone across all faculties, disciplines and research paradigms working in – or interested in exploring – Critical Global Health to join the Network, which is jointly hosted by SHS Health, Mind and Society and the Institute for Advanced Studies. However, recognising that Early Career Researchers (ECRs) are often at the forefront of novel Critical Global Health scholarship, this Network is led by – and primarily serves – ECRs. Therefore, we are running this 5-minute short survey to better understand where in UCL our Critical Global Health ECRs are operating and how you would like the Network to facilitate your growth and development.

Complete the survey

Once you complete the survey, we would greatly appreciate it if you could please share it with your UCL colleagues who might be interested in the Network.

Furthermore, we are also recruiting ECRs who may be interested in working with the Steering Committee, e.g. social media communications and event organisation.

Please get in touch with Yuko Otake, the Chair of the Network's Steering Committee, if you are interested in working with us or if you have any questions.
