This intensive four-day short course will help you develop your research skills.
Many of the teaching examples used on the course are from infectious diseases and sexual health, but the principles can be applied to any discipline. It's been designed to meet the specific needs of busy healthcare and third sector workers who want to know more about research.
This course is aimed at healthcare workers in the fields of HIV, sexual health and infectious diseases (as well as other medical specialities) who want to develop their research skills. Prior experience in research and stats is not essential.
After completing the course you'll be better able to conduct, appraise and interpret research. You'll be able to use research in your clinical practice and in other settings, and be able to disseminate your learning to others.
This course will cover:
- Principles of formulating a research question and designing a study
- Qualitative, quantitative, mixed research methods
- The principles of statistical design and analysis
- Working with data
- The principles of systematic review
- Questionnaire design
- Patient and public involvement in research
- The principles of health economics
- An overview of research in low and middle income countries
- Research governance, ethical approval and good practice in research
- Presenting at conferences and getting papers published
- Translating research in to policy
