Lisa Jardine: In Memoriam

Born 12 April 1944 - Died 25 October 2015

Lisa Jardine

25 October 2015

We are deeply saddened by the death of Lisa Jardine. Lisa was Professor of Renaissance Studies at UCL, Director of the Centre for Editing Lives and Letters and Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society, to name just a few of her many engagements and accolades.

Lisa was a distinguished scholar of Low Countries History and her fascinating and insightful work on the history of Anglo-Dutch relations includes Going Dutch: How England Plundered Holland's Glory, two books on Erasmus, and most recently Temptation in the Archives: Essays in Golden Age Dutch Culture, published in Open Access with UCL Press.

Lisa was kind enough to give a wonderful lecture on Sir Isaac Newton and Christiaan Huygens: Anglo-Dutch Science and Politics around 1688 for the launch of the Centre in March 2014.

Lisa was an inspiring, warm and generous person and made a deep impact on all who knew her. The Centre looks forward to celebrating her contribution to Anglo-Dutch Studies.
