Translation Workshop on João do Rio’s short stories “Dentro da noite” and “Emoções”

Join Dr Mirian Ruffini (UFSC/ UTFPR) and Dr Ana Cláudia Suriani da Silva (UCL) for a translation workshop on João do Rio’s short stories “Dentro da noite” and “Emoções” (Dentro da noite, Garnier, 1910). We will focus on cultural and aesthetic aspects of the short stories, especially those regarding the Brazilian Belle Époque, the gothic and decadentism.

The SELCS Brazilian Translation Club is a series of workshops in which translators, writers, students, researchers and enthusiasts of Brazilian literature meet to discuss the translation of Brazilian literature. This workshop is an extracurricular activity of the UCL UG programme in Portuguese and is open to the general public. Anyone who translates from and into Portuguese or has some knowledge of Portuguese is welcome.
