Social and Biological 

At the core of ICLS research is the belief that a better understanding of how our social circumstances and our biology intertwine over the lifecourse can ultimately play a key role in improving people's lives.

Our current programme of research will inform ongoing debates on the utility of using biodata to address questions of interest to the social sciences.  For example does using genetic information add to our understanding of causal relationships?

One area of interest for our team is the bidirectional associations between mental states, including chronic stress arousal and depression, and systemic inflammation or metabolic changes: this will help to identify biological processes linking childhood exposures with adult diseases and how changes in physical and mental health influence each other among older people, thus offering potential intervention targets.
